Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a member of Lake Quivira to participate?

You must be a Lake Quivira member, or guest of a member.  If you are not a member or guest, your registration will be rejected; all registration fees are nonrefundable. 

Is this event chip-timed?

This is a laid back, family event.  In an effort to keep that informal, fun atmosphere, the event is manually timed. 

What is the Refund/Withdrawal policy?

 There are NO refunds for the event.  

Is there a cap on the number of participants?

To ensure a well-managed event and to maximize the enjoyment of our athletes and spectators, the number of entrants is capped.  With a cap of 120 participants, this day out at the lake will fill up fast! 

Is there a waiting list for the event?

 No, we do not offer a waiting list. 

Are there age requirements for the triathlon?

 Yes, all triathlon participants must be 14 years of age as of the day of the event.

What is the age group breakdown?

There are no age group breakdowns.  Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers, as well as the top team.

What if my team members can’t compete due to unforeseen circumstances and I am the only one on my te

If only one athlete remains on the team due to unforeseen circumstances or injury, that athlete can participate as an individual. The individual will not be refunded the difference in entry fee.

Can I mail in my registration?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a mail in registration option, but if you need assistance or don’t have access to the Internet, email us at racedirector@lakequiviratriathlon.com. 

Do you offer Athena or Clydesdale divisions?

No.

I can’t make the packet pick-up dates/times. How can I get my packet?

If you are unable to pick up your packet on the dates allotted, we will have an on-site pick-up the day of the race. On-site packet pick-up will open at 7:00AM.

Are wetsuits required?

No. Wetsuits are not required but we do recommend wearing one. The average water temperature varies based on weather conditions, especially during the autumn months.

What is the average water temperature at Lake Quivira?

The water temperate can range between 65-85 degrees depending on weather conditions.

Do I have to be a member of USAT in order to participate in the triathlon?

No, this is not a sanctioned event.

How long is the triathlon course?

The course begins with a 500 meter swim in Lake Quivira, followed by 2 loops along the scenic roads around the lake (approximately 9 miles total) and finishes with a 5K run.

Can I have pancakes if I am not competing?

Absolutely!  Athletes and volunteers get a free breakfast at Blessing Park. All others may join us for pancakes - $7.00 adults and $5.00 for kids after the event. Bring cash.  Try to arrive prior to 7:30 if you are cheering on participants or after 9:45 to avoid the race.
